The future of human services depends on collaboration, innovation, and strong leadership. Those themes were front and center as EmberHope Chief Administrative Officer Jamie Riojas and President & CEO Nickaila Sandate recently attended the Netsmart Kansas & Missouri Leadership Summit, joining senior leaders from across the region to discuss the evolving landscape of care delivery.

The summit brought together executives from the Netsmart client community throughout Kansas and Missouri for meaningful conversations around the challenges and opportunities facing human service organizations today. Through peer networking, collaborative discussions, and future-focused planning, attendees explored new strategies for strengthening organizations while improving outcomes for those they serve.

For Riojas, the opportunity represented the chance ensure EmberHope remains engaged in regional conversations shaping the future of child and family well-being and human services as a whole.
“I attended because it was an opportunity to be represented and involved in regional conversations with other leaders who are navigating similar priorities and challenges,” Riojas shared.

One area of focus centered on workforce investment and how organizations are approaching recruitment, leadership development, employee support, and long-term retention in an increasingly complex workforce environment. As organizations across the country continue to face staffing challenges, leaders shared ideas and best practices designed to build stronger, more resilient teams.

Another key topic was the growing role of artificial intelligence in human services. Discussions emphasized responsible, ethical implementation of AI to improve efficiency, strengthen decision-making, support employees, and prepare organizations for the future—always with people remaining at the center of the work.

“I was particularly interested in the discussion around workforce investment strategies and how organizations are thinking differently about recruiting, developing, supporting, and retaining staff,” Riojas said. “I also valued the future-focused planning around artificial intelligence and how AI may be used responsibly to improve efficiency, strengthen decision-making, support staff capacity, and help organizations prepare for the next generation of care delivery.”

At EmberHope, continuous learning is an important part of building a stronger organization. By participating in leadership opportunities like the Netsmart Kansas & Missouri Leadership Summit, agency leaders gain valuable insights that help strengthen operations, support employees, and ultimately improve outcomes for children and families across Kansas.

As child and family well-being continues to evolve, EmberHope remains committed to learning from peers, embracing responsible innovation, and investing in leadership that positions the organization to meet the needs of today while preparing for tomorrow.
