Hearts of Hope Newsletter_December

From the desk of Lisa Capps, Chief Advancement Officer, EmberHope Youthville A heart of hope is the hope a child feels for a stable family; the hope you feel to make a difference; the hope we all feel for change. Hearts of Hope is a monthly newsletter that celebrates the work you inspire. It’s filled with stories of people dedicated to the mission of sparking change to improve lives for children and families in need.

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas at EmberHope Youthville! Candle flames flicker in the windows of Libbey Hall, wreaths decorate the doors, Christmas trees shine bright. Ward Hall is overflowing with packages and presents for the kiddos, big warm coats and beautiful handmade blankets to keep them warm, everything imaginable to make this a wonderful holiday for the children and families in our care. We are thankful for the many gifts received.

Yet, in our hearts we hold dear the true meaning of Christmas. It is a time for remembering the Son of God and renewing our determination to take upon us His name. Let this be a time to look back and feel gratitude. May this gratitude strengthen our determination to follow Him. May it also lead us closer to our family, our church, and those in need.

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy

Spirit you may abound in hope.” Romans 15:13

There are angels among us. Brian Donnelly, vice president Bank of the West in Newton, Kansas is collecting gifts for girls on campus through the bank’s Angel Tree. Brian started the Angel Tree as a way to give back to the non-profit organizations in Newton, and the residents responded by donating gifts for the children. It’s a project the entire community embraces and a wonderful tradition. We feel blessed to be a part of the Angel Tree this year. A sincere thank you to Brian and every Newton resident who donates gifts to the cause!

Holiday parties are underway to entertain our kids in care and express a heartfelt thank you to the wonderful families who take the children in need into their homes. Your gifts help make these parties possible!

  • Pancake Breakfast and photos with Santa, organized by Project Kid2Kid (with 77 stockings donated by former foster parents!)
  • Christmas party hosted by Aldersgate Renew and Christmas lights bus tour sponsored by Mark and Jana Griggs
  • Foster Family Christmas party with games and activities at First United Methodist Church of Wichita

Thank you to everyone who made these parties special for our families! That’s A Wrap! We partnered on a truly unique community event, Wrapping It Up for Hope, to raise awareness and funds for our mission. KSN news anchors Lisa Teachman, Jeff Herndon and Gwyn Bevel were wrapping gifts and signing holiday cards at NewMarket Square. It was a joyous way to spend a Saturday afternoon and a wonderful way to spread the word about the needs of the children in our care.

KSN is a tremendous partner and supporter of EmberHope Youthville as were the event sponsors Mid America Exteriors, White Eagle Credit Union, 1st Choice Trailers, and Cowley County College. Martin Pringle Attorneys at Law shared their valuable time and talent as

volunteers to help wrap gifts. Our thanks go out to everyone involved for making this a wonderful event. We look forward to wrapping it up again next year!

May the Blessings of Christmas be with you today, and always. Our vision is to improve the lives of at-risk youth and families by offering innovative programs rooted in faith to inspire hope.
